Whole-family postpartum support for the tender weeks after birth
Nurturing postpartum care in the comfort of your own home
“Having Lara around gave us breathing space during those early weeks, and helped us enjoy time with our daughter instead of feeling constantly behind. It felt like a pressure valve was released.”
Sophie and Paul, FolkestoneStepping out of survival mode, and landing softly into motherhood
Hi, I’m Lara Diprose
I’m a hands-on, nourishment-led postpartum doula covering Folkestone, Hythe, Canterbury, Ashford, and across the Thanet coast.
My work is shaped by my experiences of living through an unsupported postpartum, followed by a truly restorative postpartum.
I know first hand the power of nurturing postpartum support, and it’s a joy to extend that care to families in my community.
When stepping into your tender postpartum season, I’m there to help you rest, recover, and feel genuinely looked after as you adjust to life with your baby.

“With no family help nearby we really struggled with juggling all the household chores whilst my husband worked full time and I was trying my best to rest fully and look after our baby. It meant that he could be more present with us as he didn’t need to cook all the time and we actually ate home cooked, nourishing meals that were good for us rather than relying on easy meals or takeaways.”

“Lara looked after all of us. She cooked nourishing meals and stocked our fridge and freezer with food that was miles better than the takeaways we thought we’d be relying on. She somehow managed to care for my wife, tidy up, offer emotional support, and gently insisted I go and nap — which might have been the greatest gift of all. Also, her flapjacks are genuinely the best we’ve ever had.”

Imagine your postpartum doula arriving at your house, bringing your next week's worth of meals. She greets with a smile and a hug, she's genuinely happy to be here for you. You don't have to offer her a drink or play host. She gets right to work stocking your fridge and freezer. She serves you a homemade stew and cup of red date tea, in bed. From your bed you hear her washing up, putting a wash on, all whilst entertaining your toddler. You doze off, waking up late afternoon to a fed toddler, a tidy house, a fresh cup of tea and a snack waiting for you. The dinner is on, your herbal bath is running. Postpartum feels different to what you expected; gentler, slower, safer.

Absolutely. Birth and postpartum doesn’t always go as expected. I am there to be a grounding presence, no matter the circumstances.
An example of in-hospital postpartum care is a time when my client had a freebirth and went to hospital afterwards. She was struggling with breastfeeding and with getting some rest, as she was constantly disturbed by various well-meaning staff whilst in hospital.
I worked with my client to teach her some breastfeeding positions and get her baby latched on really well whilst in the side lying position so she could get some sleep. I worked with the midwives on the ward to arrange a do not disturb sign and agreed they would give her a few hours rest.
My client managed some great feeds, which really reassured her, and she was able to have a proper nap after days of not sleeping much.
“Lara's home cooked food arrived on my doorstep within hours of my birth and was exactly what was needed in those first days. She had carefully considered my postpartum needs and I felt really cared for, not to mention the physical benefits experienced having starting postpartum with the right nourishment.”
Betty, Folkestone

That’s why I’m a Director on the board for the Folkey Birth Club. The Folkey Birth Club is a local CIC that offers in-person gatherings, postnatal circles, and a moderated WhatsApp group for pregnant and postpartum people.
My role includes being the safeguarding lead, a community representative, providing homemade food for the in-person gatherings, and physically setting up and packing down in-person events.
If you’re based in Folkestone or surrounding areas, you’d be so welcome to join our postnatal circles which are designed to support your optimal physical, mental and social health.
